Is Ford's reign as the top-selling car brand coming to an end? A new article in Businessweek this month says it might be. And it could be Jeep who takes the crown.
After having one of its best years in recent memory, selling over 392,390 cars in North America, Jeep sales are steadily climbing the charts. According to Businessweek, if these numbers keep up over the course of the next few years, Jeep will be the top-selling brand in North America. An impressive feat thanks largely to Jeep's new innovative models and lavish redesigns. The new redesign of the 2014 Cherokee, for example, has sold over 44,000 units in just the first half of this year. Figures that helped parent company Fiat Chrysler to their amazing second quarter sales.
That's not surprising as Jeep has steadily been one of top-selling car brands in America since the wildly successful Cherokee was introduced in 1984. And thirty years later, the brand shows no sign of stopping. And with new lines coming out, like the very cool looking Jeep Renegade, the manufacturer is looking to keep those numbers coming. As Jeep's first subcompact crossover, the Renegade, which goes on sale in December, should keep Jeep's popularity at its current high. I also encourage a quick Google search of the Jeep Gladiator, also out in 2015. Trust me, it does Russell Crowe proud.
All in all, it will be very interesting to watch in the coming years if Jeep can sustain their impressive climb. Jeep certainly has the tools and the smarts to do it, and if they keep producing these increasingly popular crossover vehicles then Jeep certainly will become the "new American car."
