What are the Benefits of OEM Parts vs Aftermarket Parts?
Higher Quality Means Longevity
You should be concerned about making sure your vehicle gets the best possible part. There are two options when it comes to getting parts for your car, which are OEM parts and aftermarket parts. Unlike OEM parts, aftermarket parts are not made by the original manufacturer. Instead, they are made by a third party supplier. They are similar to the generic equivalent of any consumer product in the sense that they are mass-produced for quantity rather than quality. Aftermarket parts are also not held to the same regulatory standards as OEM parts, which is especially problematic if they're made overseas, where there can be considerable differences in quality and safety. While it's true that OEM parts tend to cost more than aftermarket parts, it's worth the extra cost to make sure you get a part that lasts and to make sure that you don't end up with a cheap product that ruins your car.
OEM Mopar Parts are Well Supported
Every manufacturer-made component will have a warranty. The warranty period varies depending on the type of part you get and the manufacturer, but at a minimum you'll get a part with a one-year warranty. The added advantage is that most parts have a warranty that's recognized across the country. In contrast, aftermarket parts do not have the same warranty. In fact, most don't have a warranty at all. So when you leave the repair shop, you'll have to hope that the part doesn't break again soon. Unfortunately, it's not uncommon for an aftermarket part to break down again shortly after it's been replaced, as it is very possible to get a part of inferior quality. The mechanic might offer some warranty for service, but you won't get a manufacturer-backed guarantee.
Proper Fit and Ease of Replacement
Since OEM parts are made directly by the manufacturer, they are designed to fit your car like a glove. They will be identical to the original part in appearance and size. Because mechanics know that an OEM part will fit, it makes the repair process much faster and easier. Alternatively, aftermarket parts have a generic fit. It can take some time to find a part that fits your make and model, which adds to the stress of your car repairs!
