Lots of changes are coming to the Jeep Wrangler when it debuts its newest redesign in 2018. From an all-new aluminum body to a possibly smaller engine, the 2018 Wrangler will certainly be on everyone's must-have lists in the next few years. And that's not all the new Wrangler will sport. Jeep has just announced the exciting news that the next-generation Wrangler will come with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The major reasoning behind these changes is to bring down the Wrangler's total curb weight and thus improve its fuel economy. In Jeep's SEC filing, where they announced the new eight-speed automatic transmission, the automaker noted that the new transmission "reduces fuel consumption by more than 9 percent over the [current] five-speed."

This eight-speed auto is already used on the Jeep Grand Cherokee and several other vehicles under Jeep's corporate umbrella. It will be interesting to see exactly how the move impacts the overall Jeep line. If the eight-speed proves to be a positive move, then we could be seeing even more Jeep's outfitted with the fuel-efficient transmission.

The automaker is still being very hush-hush over what exactly the newly redesigned Jeep Wrangler will have. It's set to debut in Jeep's 2018 model year, so stay tuned to our blog as we bring you even more details about this brand-new Wrangler.
