Chrysler's all-new midsize sedan, the 2015 Chrysler 200, has just earned five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Five stars is the best rating offered by the NHTSA and cements the 200's already impeccable safety reputation since being rated a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety.
The NHTSA looks at several factors when judging a car's safety, including side-impacts with a two-vehicle collision, side-impacts with a single-vehicle (a.k.a. a pole) and frontal collision impact. The 2015 Chrysler 200 did beautifully during these tests, earning five stars in each.
"The Chrysler 200's superior performance in such safety tests validates our continuing efforts to deliver the latest advancements in both passive and active safety technologies,"says Scott Kunselman, Chrysler Group's Senior Vice President and Head of Vehicle Safety and Regulatory Compliance.
These passive and active safety technologies are robust on the 200, with over 60 tech features that include segment-exclusive Electronic Park Brake with SafeHold, electronic stability control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, blind-spot monitoring, rear backup sensors, and LATCH child seat anchors. The NHTSA's favorite feature was the Full-speed Forward Collision Warning-Plus system, which uses a combination of a camera and radar that provides automatic braking and slowing when the car senses immediate frontal danger.
The sedan's solid body structure was also a major factor in the Chrysler 200's high safety rating. The 200 is made using advanced high-strength, hot-stamped and boron steel, which helps maintain the car's integrity during an accident.
The new 2015 Chrysler 200 was launched in Dallas this May, boasting an elegant interior and beautifully crafted exterior design that has Chrysler fans raving.
