1) Bring your car in for service.
Our first tip is one that everyone should follow, because it’s one of the only ways to guarantee your car will remain healthy during the winter. Bringing your car to your local Richardson service center for an oil change, tire rotation and battery check will ensure that your car runs smoothly and safely all winter long.
2) Check for battery corrosion.
This is another big one that drivers should look out for. The risk of battery corrosion is big in the winter, which is why you should consistently check to make sure there isn’t any signs of corrosion like a white powdery substance near the battery’s clamps or nodes. If you do see any corrosion, bring in your car for service or clean the battery using professional cleaning supplies.
3) Make sure you have plenty of fluids.
Fluids are a big part of car maintenance, so double check that your car has plenty of antifreeze and oil. We also recommend adding “winterized’ windshield wiper fluid to your car, which uses more alcohol than water, so it is less likely to freeze in frigid temperatures.
4) Get your wipers checked or replaced.
Speaking of wipers, it's also important to either check their condition or replace them to ensure you have maximum visibility during possible ice and snow storms. As with wiper fluid, we also recommend asking your service technician about adding “winter wipers” to your car, which help swat away ice better than a standard pair.
