2017 Ram 2500 & 3500 Overview

The Ram 2500 and 3500 are back on the market again for the 2017 model year. This time around, the 2500 receives a few updates, while the 3500 arrives unchanged. If you need a pickup truck with a little more power and capabilities, you can also go with one of the bigger Ram 4500 or 5500 models.

Read over our 2017 Ram 2500 review below for more information about the model as well as the 3500.

Trims & Equipment

Both the 2500 and 3500 are offered in Tradesman, SLT, Big Horn/Lone Star, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn and Limited trims. The 2017 Ram 2500 in Richardson is also available in a Power Wagon trim that offers unique components, such as all-terrain tiers, skid plates, electronic locking differentials and tow hooks.

For all models, buyers can choose a variety of cab styles, including two-door regular cab, four-door crew cab, four-door jumbo crew cab and Mega Cab - a variety of options that many 2017 Ram 2500 reviews have praised.

New on the 2500 model this year is an upgraded suspension on Laramie Longhorn and Limited 4x4 models, a standard 6.4L V8 engine on Laramie and fresh styling on the Power Wagon. A new 4x4 Off-Road package is also available. It comes with hill descent control, Bilstein shocks, a limited-slip differential, a transfer case skid plate, tow hooks and 18- or 20-inch on-/off-road tires.

Other features offered on both the 2500 and 3500 include keyless entry, a limited-slip rear differential, a spray-in bedliner, navigation, auto high beams, a RamBox cargo management system and a locking tailgate.

Performance Specs

A 5.7L V8 engine, delivering 383 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque, is fitted on most 2500 and 3500 models. It's paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

A 6.4L V8, offering 410 horsepower and 429 lb.-ft. of torque, and mated to a six speed automatic is optional. There's also a turbo 6.7L diesel six-cylinder available that produces 350 horsepower and 660 lb.-ft. of torque, when paired with a six-speed manual. A six speed auto increases power to 370 hp and 800 lb.-ft. of torque. Move up to a heavier six-speed automatic and the engine makes 385 hp and 900 lb.-ft. of torque.

Safety Options

Airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, traction control, antilock brakes, airbags, and a post-collision safety system are outfitted on the 2017 Ram 2500 in Richardson. You will also find these same items on the Ram 3500 model, which is available now at Richardson Ram.
