Shopping for a new compact crossover that can handle the demands of city driving, as well as off-road terrain? The latest Jeep Renegade model may just fit the bill. Despite its size, the Renegade wields a hefty amount of power and energy, making it a perfect vehicle for any adventure.

In addition to the four usual trims--Sport, Latitude, Limited and Trailhawk--limited edition Altitude and Deserthawk trims join the 2017 lineup. To learn more about the crossover's features, powertrain options and safety tech, continue reading our 2017 Jeep Renegade review below.

Six Trims with a Long List of Features

The base Sport trim of the 2017 Jeep Renegade near Dallas gives users the basic necessities, but Latitude adds on more comfort and convenience features like Bluetooth phone and audio, voice commands, double USB ports, a 5-inch Uconnect interface, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and more. Altitude includes the same creature comforts with the addition of a monochrome black interior, black exterior accessories and 18-inch black wheels.

Trailhawk also offers the same appointments as the Latitude model, adding more trail-oriented performance features like a raised suspension, underbody skid plates, all-terrain tires, tow hooks, 17-inch alloy wheels, and unique exterior and interior accents. The next-level Deserthawk features black wheels, rock rails, a model-exclusive color and a decal set.

The top-tier Limited trim throws in all the bells and whistles, including dual exhaust tips, leather upholstery, heated front seats, automatic wipers, dual-zone automatic climate control and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Choose Your Drivetrain

When you shop for a 2017 Jeep Renegade in Richardson, you'll have a choice between front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, as well as two engines options. The standard powertrain configuration for the Renegade is a 1.4-liter four that delivers 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The singular transmission option, a six-speed manual, offers endless driving fun for stick shift fans.

Starting on the Limited trim, a 2.4-liter four sits under the hood, making 180 hp and 175 pound-feet of torque. Mated with a nine-speed automatic transmission, 2.4L models also show off a good amount of tow power for a compact crossover, with a maximum capacity of 2,000 lbs. when properly equipped (4WD only).

Smart Safety Tech Available

2017 Jeep Renegade reviews are impressed by the crossover's great government safety scores, which are the result of standard safety features like a driver knee airbag, front side airbags, side curtain airbags, antilock brakes and a rearview camera (excluding Sport). The Renegade is also offered with the latest drive-assist features, which are separated into two packages. The first package, Safety and Security, adds rear cross-traffic alert and a blind-spot monitor. The second, Advanced Technology, comes with automatic high beams, front collision warning with emergency braking, rear parking sensors and a lane departure warning with assistance.
