What's New for the 2018 Jeep Cherokee?

Fans of the Jeep Cherokee will notice a few significant changes to the model in 2018. Most importantly, Jeep has scrapped the Sport trim level from the line, which means that the Latitude trim is now entry-level edition. For consumers that want a great selection of standard features without a high price tag, this change should be very welcome news. Some of these new standards include 17-inch aluminum wheels, a backup camera, and fog lights.

A Trim for Every Outing

The 2018 Jeep Cherokee comes with five trim options, most with a front-wheel drive and a four-wheel drive version. They include Latitude, Latitude Plus, Trailhawk, Limited, and Overland. As it was mentioned earlier, the Latitude is now the base-level trim for the Jeep Cherokee. Features for this option include DC and AC power outlets, cruise control, covered dashboard storage, USB connectivity, six-speaker audio, and voice-activated radio. For the Latitude Plus trim, consumers will receive the standard features, as well as others like a proximity key fob, leather interior, auto-lock doors, satellite radio trial subscription, and optional weather display. The Trailhawk trim gives users access to automatic climate control, all-door remote keyless entry, mini overhead console, steering wheel audio controls, smartphone integration, and internet access. Unlike the other trim options, the Trailhawk is only offered with four-wheel drive. At the Limited level, you can expect to find features like a garage door transmitter, fob controls for the trunk, heated steering wheel, rearview mirror with auto-dim lights, first row LCD monitors, and a power liftgate. The top-of-the-line Overland trim comes standard with features like side view mirror memory, voice-activated navigation system, driver seat memory, second row sunroof, ten-speaker audio, and outside weather display.

Performance Above Expectations

Regardless of which option you choose, both engines provide a smooth transition between gears. For consumers that want fast acceleration or major hauling power, the 3.2-liter engine is the way to go. In terms of fuel economy, the front-wheel drive, four-cylinder option comes out on top. It can achieve 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. That number drops to 28 mpg on the highway for four-wheel drive. With the V6 engine, front-wheel drive offers 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Those numbers are a little lower with the four-wheel drive option-20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
