What's New for the 2018 Jeep Wrangler?

The 2018 Wrangler is completely redesigned. It's always been the best off-road vehicle on the consumer market, but now it also features a higher-quality cabin for increased comfort. This new model is also longer, wider, and taller, making for a roomier road trip. Its newly optional eight-speed transmission makes the Wrangler much more livable on the pavement. Away from the roadway, though, this SUV is still the rugged beast we've all come to know and love, hurling through sand, snow, and rock with best-in-class capabilities. At the dealership, you should note that the newly redesigned Wrangler, also known as the JL, is for sale alongside the old model, which is known as JK.

Trims and Configurations

There are two Wrangler body styles: the classic two-door and the four-door Unlimited. The two-door variant is available in three trims: Sport, Sports S, and Rubicon. The Wrangler Unlimited is available in Sport, Sport S, Sahara and Rubicon. When you shop for yours, you can choose between a soft-top or removable hardtop.

If all you're after is the rugged basics, the Sports trim will suit you just fine. It's got everything you expect from the Wrangler - like removable doors and a fold-down windshield. While it does have keyless entry, the Sport takes you back in time a little bit with crank windows and manual mirrors and locks. Air conditioning is optional equipment.

For added convenience, check out the Sports S. It upgrades your ride with air conditioning and power windows and locks. The leather-wrapped steering wheel lets you take a little luxury with you, no matter how rugged the trip. Sun visors and vanity mirrors are a nice touch.

The mid-grade Sahara trim is only available as a four-door Unlimited model. It adds a lot more modern features, including a 115-volt power outlet to charge your laptop on the run. It also delivers Jeep's Uconnect infotainment system, giving you both a 7-inch touchscreen and complete smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities. This technology displays apps like Phone and Messages on your central touchscreen, so you can interact with friends without looking away from the road.

For those who want to foray deep into an off-road territory, there's no better option than the Rubicon. It starts with the basic Sports lineup and adds a plethora of off-road-ready hardware, including special tires and a unique four-wheel-drive system with low-range gearing. Rock rails and a disconnecting front roll bar help you tackle the especially tricky terrain.

Engine and Performance

In-Demand Safety Features

2018 Jeep WranglerThis new Wrangler differentiates itself from previous generations with a wealth of new tech features. That includes a rearview camera to see better as you back out of a narrow alley or navigate a dark parking garage. You can add optional parking sensors to help you slide the Wrangler into a parallel parking space without a scratch. Blind-spot monitoring is also an option. This technology alerts you to any vehicles lurking in your blind spot so that you can switch lanes without any nasty incidents.
